A dramatic encounter between a leopard and a hyena was witnessed at Chitwa Chitwa Game Lodge in South Africa’s Sabi Sands Game Reserve. The incident occurred after a hyena managed to steal a kill from a mother leopard and her cub.
In an attempt to reclaim the stolen meal, the young leopard cautiously approached the hyena. However, the hyena quickly detected the cub and confronted it, forcing the leopard to retreat. Sensing the danger, the cub fled and climbed a nearby tree to escape.
The cub was not injured, and the mother leopard remained close throughout the encounter. Such interactions are common in the wild, where leopards and hyenas frequently compete over food, often leading to tense and risky confrontations.
