What started as a quiet drive near Skukuza Camp on Alpha Loop turned into a thrilling wildlife drama across three days. A pride of ten lions was first spotted unexpectedly, and just two days later, they were seen hunting a Cape buffalo in the Sabie River at Bravo Loop. The hunt, captured by Gerry Smit and his guests from Kruger Gateway Safaris, showcased the raw intensity of predator-prey interactions in the wild.
The following morning brought even more drama. An opportunistic Nile crocodile and a determined herd of elephants clashed with the lions, unwilling to share their favourite drinking spot. The elephants aggressively chased the big cats away, protecting their calves and asserting dominance at the waterhole. Filmed with the guidance of Private Kruger Safaris’ Hennie and Bernhard Bekker, the footage reveals how survival in Kruger is an ongoing battle.
