Eleven Elephants Trapped In A Hidden Crater

An entire group of elephants became trapped inside an old bomb crater in Cambodia. The animals could not climb the steep sides, leaving them stranded deep below ground.

Community members, government rangers, and conservationists joined forces to dig an escape route. The rescue required hours of exhausting work while the elephants waited inside the crater.

Eventually, the elephants found the newly created path and climbed back into the forest. It was an extraordinary example of a community coming together to give a trapped herd a second chance.
